OpenEco
  •    Description
  • Founded by Sun Microsystems, OpenEco.org is a global open source online community which provides free and easy to use tools to help participants calculate, track, compare, and reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, encourage sustainable innovation, and share proven best practices.

This eco-focused community project is connected around carbon accounting & energy efficiency, using an open source and modular platform based on Solaris, Java and MySQL, making it a secure, robust and flexible project environment.

The cost of admission is sharing data, transparently or anonymously, with other community participants. To this end there are two specific ways to participate with OpenEco.org:

    • Participate: Register, calculate, and post your company’s GHG emission calculations using the current really cool tools

    • Create: We need DEVELOPERS to join OpenEco and expand our open source platform by creating new modules which will help us change the world.
o Create really cool new modules
o Make mashups using the XML API

    Join OpenEco now

Sun Microsystems is a proud sponsor of OpenEco.org and has been in the forefront and continues to be a corporate leader in reducing their Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emmissions. See Sun Eco Responsibility.

  •    Updates
  • The OpenEco Platform powers BC3

We are excited to announce the first new web community powered by the OpenEco Platform - the Business Council on Climate Change: BC3 community. BC3 is a partnership of San Francisco Bay Area businesses committed to reducing their green house gas emissions. Sun Microsystems is a member of BC3 and sponsored development of the site on the OpenEco platform. We are looking forward to seeing all the BC3 organizations using the Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) tracking tool for their buildings, contributing to the Forums, and otherwise participating in the OpenEco community.
