Two months ago our open source OpenEco Platform was used to develop the BC3 site. This past month one additional organization has chosen this platform to create their site based on ease of development and the flexibility of the modules. The site is in final stages of development and testing and will be up within the next few weeks. The site is an internal Sun Microsystems marketing organization.

We’ve now included our Dashboard Module as part of the administrative functions available in our source code located on Java.net. When you download the source code (OpenEco Platform) to develop either new modules for OpenEco.org or to develop your own site using our source code like BC3, the Dashboard module will be part of your download. To view detailed information about this module go to: https://www.openeco.org/dashboard/dashboard/3.
This module allows you to easily edit information under each of the column headings by simply double clicking, making the change, and, when you click somewhere else on the page, saves the changes. The module will also allow you to drag and drop items to share with other team members along with creating “to-do” items for teams or team members.

We've added a new module that allows authorized users to add to a 'quote of the day' list. Generate a random quote as html or xml or embed it with jQuery. To view the quote module it is currently live on the Business Council for Climate Change site: http://bc3sfbay.org

We’ve made it easier for a developer to download a particular module instead of having to download all modules through subversion on Java.net. Go to https://openeco.dev.java.net/servlets/ProjectDocumentList and click on “Individual Modules”.

To give developers a heads up, we’ve listed all the available modules in the OpenEco Modules page along with a brief explanation of each module. Go to https://www.openeco.org/modules to view this listing.

OpenEco has been accepted into the Java Enterprise Community as a member. The Java Enterprise Community on java.net is a new gathering place for developers working with J2EE technologies. Here, you can immerse yourself in a thriving community of developers and technology experts and find people with similar interests to help with your own open source projects. See the OpenEco listing on the Java Enterprise Community projects page.

We now have an easy way for you to share the OpenEco site with your friends and other Eco-conscious developers. The easy “tell-a-friend” function allows you to send an email to anyone with an email address. We’ve created pre-written content which also allows you to add a personal message as well. Use “tell-a-friend” to share your OpenEco enthusiasm. Give it a try and spread the OpenEco energy it leaves a small footprint.

The OpenEco Team has added a messaging function to make it easier communicate with members who post items in the OpenEco Forum. So, if you have a question or comment about someone’s forum post, it’s easy to communicate with them simply by clicking the envelop icon next to their name. Once you send the message the recipient will receive an email indicating that there is a message waiting for them on OpenEco. The email will include links to access the message or log in and go to openeco.org/message. We hope this feature assists you in communicating directly with others in the community.

We are excited to announce the first new web community powered by the OpenEco Platform - the Business Council on Climate Change: https://www.bc3sfbay.org/.
BC3 is a partnership of San Francisco Bay Area businesses committed to reducing their green house gas emissions. Sun Microsystems is a member of BC3 and sponsored development of the site on the OpenEco platform. We are looking forward to seeing all the BC3 organizations using the Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) tracking tool for their buildings, contributing to the Forums, and otherwise participating in the OpenEco community.
