Citing their recent inability to balance both Warrior and Hunter classes, the Blizzard development team recently announced they would be combining them into one new ‘Uber Class’ known as the Panzer for the yet to be named expansion.
Stating that Hunter pets shared many of the same functions of a Warrior, it only made sense to make the two classes work in a ‘co-op’ mode. In doing so, they believe the envelope of social gaming will be pushed even further. Upon selecting the Panzer class, two players will under go a ‘syncing’ system upon character creation which will allow one to control the Hunter (recently renamed as Jaeger) while the other handles the Pet (rebranded as Buddy Operated Teammate, Bot for short).
Addressing concerns during a recent Blizz Con Podcast, several key game designers had the following to say:
“In the past Jaegers (Hunters) have used their pets in the role of a tank on bosses such a Sindragosa, leaving Warriors to angrily punch and abuse the local Murloc population. Now, do not mistake this for us giving in to the Murloc lobbyists, we simply saw this as part of the natural evolution of game design. The fact abilities such as Dash and Charge or Shield Slam and Kill Command served such a similar function only reaffirmed our decision to be the right one.”
A new addition to the development staff charged with conceiving such innovative ideas responded to a particularly inquisitive WoW player with:
‘We understand the concept of class combination and ‘syncing’ process is both new and difficult to wrap your head(s) around at the moment. However, the concept of a Hero class with three tanking specs did not make sense to players at first either, and we all know how well that worked out. It is our belief the radical new concept of the Panzer class will revolutionize MMOs for generations to come. It really will bring an unprecedented level of cooperation, player immersion, and strategy on behalf of the Jaeger and Bot.’

Upon hearing these responses from the Blizzard Development team a noted Warrior and WoW Historian took to the forums:
“According to everything I have read on the subject it appears Hunters’ pets will no longer take the form of Azerothian wildlife. Subsequently, with the supposed rebranding of Hunter to Jaeger and Pet to Bot are we to believe the Panzer class will result from some sort of mechanized creation constructed by the Gnomes of Gnomeregon? And if so, how will the Lore account for this Horde side? Color me dubious, but there is no way Blizzard can account for this glaring flaw from a Lore perspective.”
I realize all of this is new, confusing, and possibly exciting so I will leave it to you Hunter and Warrior players of Azeroth: how do you feel about this very real and very controversial change? What about the possibilities and how about the whole ‘syncing’ process? While only time will tell how this works out, this journalist here cannot wait to see the Jaeger and Bot in (co)operation as the exciting Panzer class.

Blizzard also addressed concerns about playtime for the co-oped team. Specifically what if one half of the team cannot find the time to play. Apparently, they have taken this into consideration. A new method of leveling, unique to the Jaeger/Bot relationship is in the works. For example: If the Jaeger feels like leveling while the Bot cannot, the Bot will become automated.

It will function as if a player is behind the keyboard, but will not learn new abilities, only the experience required to level. A player must actually operate the Bot in order to learn new abilities. Blizzard has also stated strict parameters have been put in place to ensure this system is not abused
