Department Overview:
The Environmental Affairs department, as part of the Corporate Responsibility division, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated set of global strategies supporting The Walt Disney Company’s environmentally responsible practices and reputation. This includes providing overall vision and direction to the Company’s environmental efforts. Furthermore, Disney’s Environmental Affairs insures that environmental stewardship is integrated into the operating practices and decision filters of all TWDC businesses.
Specifically, the Environmental Affairs group:
Identifies environmental issues and opportunities and develops TWDC strategy
Provides cross company leadership, support and coordination of activities and policies related to environmental stewardship and responsibility
Develops and implements communications strategy in coordination with other departments
Coordinates the measurement and reporting of environmental footprint
Acts as a center of excellence on environmental topics, new technologies and trends
Monitors TWDC’s reputation and adjusts strategy as needed
Liaises with outside stakeholders in the environmental community
Responsibilities:
The Manager, Environmental Affairs Communications is responsible for overall development and coordination of marketing and communications strategy to convey Disney’s environmental responsibility to core stakeholders. This position reports to the Director Environmental Affairs and to the Corporate Responsibility Marketing Director. Responsibilities and deliverables include:
Developing new and distinctive communication strategies to enable the rapid evolution and continuously improving understanding of environmental practices within the Disney business units;
Developing communication plans and objectives for all projects and communication vehicles; coordinating communications with corporate communications and all business units;
Crafting positioning on specific environmental issues for use in press releases, speeches, annual report and other communications
Developing key messages for internal and external programs and synergy projects;
Ensuring proper use of Environmentality messaging;
Supporting Environmental Council members by providing communication support.
Required Qualifications:
The role requires a bright marketing and communication individual with a strong understanding of business and a passion for the environment. The successful candidate will bring interpersonal and presentation skills, ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and the ability to mange several projects simultaneously.
Minimum of 5 years experience in a communications role, preferably in crafting internal and external messaging around specific positions and/or issues in a corporate setting.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications
Demonstrated ability at translating strategy into practical communication
Experience developing strategic marketing and communication plans
Experience leading large scale initiatives in Disney or a Fortune 100 company
Highly collaborative, partnering, and consensus building leadership style required
Desired Qualifications:
Masters or MBA or advanced degree
