Announcing TakeMeImFree.com — Reuse Before You Recycle,

Bruce K. 10°

In an era that challenges everyone to be more financially, environmentally and socially responsible, http://www.takemeimFREE.com is a practical solution: A new online community, where members can post/donate items they no longer need, and take items they can use, for business or individual purposes — all for free. At the core of http://www.takemeimFREE.com is the simple concept of reusing – which will prove to be good for the economy, the environment, and all of us.

It depends on how you define "economy".

If you define it the way people experience it (ie. satisfaction and comfort) then clearly giving away stuff you don't need increases the comfort or utility to the person who takes it.

If, however, you define the economy in the same way that economists do: dollars spent, then clearly giving away stuff for free means reduced expenditure which is bad for the economy.

Thus examples like this underline why economic thinking is broken and needs rework.
