Tony Blair to be Britain's Al Gore?

Jeremy Williams

Tony Blair announced a new role today as an ambassador for action on climate change, joining Al Gore in the ranks of politicians turned climate crusaders. The former prime minister arrives in Tokyo today to meet with business and political leaders, as part of a series of talks that will take him to Japan, India and China as part of the 'Breaking the Climate Deadlock' initiative.

Blair is working with The Climate Group, an independent not-for-profit organization, and is seeking to provide political leadership in their campaign for a global consensus on lowering emissions.

As a respected voice in political circles, and with a record of raising the environmental agenda at the highest level, it could turn out to be an important post.
