Seeking a Ban on Plastic Bags in NC

Ariel Kirkland

My name is Ariel Elizabeth Kirkland and my son and I live in Charlotte, NC.

plastic bags I started a petition to Mayor Anthony Foxx and City Council Representative John Autry, District 5 to implement a city-wide ban on non-compostable plastic bags.  I need as many signatures as I can get to make an impact.

Would you please take 10 seconds to sign and share it right now?

This is why it's important:

As Americans we throw away 100 billion plastic bags a year that is the equivalent of 12 million barrels of oil, yet only 1-2% of these bags are recycled.

plastic waste Thousands of marine animals and more than one million birds die annually as a result of plastic pollution. Plastic bags are ingested by animals, blocking their digestive system, resulting in death by choking, starvation,or suffocation. Animals also become entangled in plastic waste resulting in drowning, incapacitation, injury, and/or strangulation. Nearly 90% of oceanic debris is plastic.

There are 46,000 pieces of plastic debris floaplastic waste ting in every square mile of ocean. Whether the plastic photo-degrades in a landfill or in the water it never ever goes away.

You and I are all a part of this. WE should want to leave a healthy bright world to our children, not a world where nature's infinite beauties and possibilities are just memories lost on the wind or histories read about in books. Remember, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”.  Thank you for your time and have a great day.
