YouTube footage of a seemingly drunk Rick Perry addressing a dinner in Manchester has been watched many many times. 

Here's the 3 minute version of what is 25 minutes of rambling, disconnected , very unusual sentences.

Amongst his words:

"This is such a cool state. I mean, come on, live free or die. I mean, it's like, live free or die. Victory or death. Bring it," he said.

"Today has been awesome girl. I grew up on a farm. I grew up ... I grew up on a farm," he said.

The very odd performance got commentators going , but we already thought that Rick Perry was the Republicans having us on 

As Jon Stewart said ,"Best case scenario, that dude's hammered. Worst case scenario, that is Perry sober and every time we've seen him previously, he's been hammered," he said.

In a new advertisement recently  launched in Iowa, Rick  Perry attempts to pretend his lack of polish ( well, even being able to speak coherently ) is an asset. Does that sound kind of desperate to you?

"If you're looking for a slick politician or a guy with great teleprompter skills, we already have that. And he's destroying our economy. I'm a doer. Not a talker," Mr Perry says in the advert.

Perry currently trails in the Iowa polls at just 7 per cent support.< >
