The construction of a sixth-form centre using relocatable building techniques, has been completed at Piggott School, an academy in Berkshire.  

The two-storey building was constructed from 48 pre-owned, refurbished steel modules, which were delivered to the site around 70% complete. 

According to the Modular and Portable Building Association, pre-owned modular buildings generate less than 10% of the carbon emissions that a conventionally constructed building of equivalent size would. 

As well as reducing carbon emissions and waste to landfill, the buildings can easily be expanded, reconfigured or removed if space requirements change and require fewer groundworks than traditional site-based construction which further reduces programme times and costs. 

In fact, the company responsible for the construction, Foremans Relocatable Building Systems, says programme times can be reduced by up to 70%. 

The centre includes eight class rooms, office accommodation, a meeting room, a social space for students and a kitchen.
