Designed by Brooklyn-based firm STUDIOKCA, a giant pavilion made out of thousands of plastic bottles was constructed on Governors Island as part of FIGMENT NYC.
‘Head in the Clouds‘ officially opened to the public over the weekend, built by the firm and more than 300 volunteers from the Emerging NY Architects Committee, the Structural Engineers Association of NY, and the FIGMENT arts organization, and from all over the city.
A series of “pillows” made of gallon jugs form the exterior while 16 and 24 ounce bottles line the interior. A sand, water, and an aluminum frame provides structural integrity and creates a small stage for up to fifty people to sit and dream at the base.
