Jane Goodall On Overpopulation

Rena Sherwood

Jane Goodall is best known for her work on uncovering chimpanzee behavior, but she is also amazingly astute about the behavior of all primates. In her efforts to preserve land for chimpanzees, she has learned to work with the natives as well as rich Western people telling the natives what to do.  And she's not afraid to talk about taboo topics like human overpopulation.

One of the misconceptions many people have about animal rights activists or people who talk about human overpopulation is that we are out to try and kill all people. People are animals, too, and therefore get equal treatment. There is a human overpopulation crisis and we will either deal with it now or suffer in the future and let calamity deal with it.

In this Fora.TV interview, Goodall talks about not only human overpopulation in the developing world, but how the people there want help and will readily accept planned parenting and contraception. The comments can apply to any part of the world and not just developing countries, due to desert enlargement  and rising sea levels making the world a more crowded place all the time. Enjoy.

All humans, not just the poor, should avoid reproducing. Westerners use 500 times the amount of resources Ethiopians do.
