Car rental company Hertz has been providing electric vehicles for a year and says it needs more to meet the demand of companies wanting to hire them. The head of public affairs and communication, Rich Broome, told GreenCarReports that they have around 50 electric cars at the moment and could use another 2,000 to 3,000. Hertz has electric vehicle rental programs in New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco and London, where they offer the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Smart Electric Drive. It has found consumer demand to be steady but corporations have been far keener than expected. Companies want to hire electric vehicles for their employees because it is an easy way to meet sustainability targets and test out the cars, and they are great for short runs between airports, hotels and businesses where charging stations are available. Hertz is expanding its electric car program to Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen, China, and it hopes manufacturers will allocate more vehicles in the future.
