Google recently announced a$168 million dollar investment in the Brightsource Ivanpah project, which is a 450 foot tall solar power tower located in California’s Mojave desert. This investment in solar, which was Google's largest to date, brought the company's investment in clean energy to a quarter of a billion dollars .Google aims to develop renewable energy such that it costs less than coal , and th eocmpany has committed to clean energy by 2030.

On the company blog Google said this googlesolar

“We need smart capital to transform our energy sector and build a clean energy future. This is our largest investment to date, and we’ve now invested over $250 million in the clean energy sector. We’re excited about Ivanpah because our investment will help deploy a compelling solar energy technology that provides reliable clean energy, with the potential to significantly reduce costs on future projects.”

Now Google has also announced that it is investing another $100 million in Shepherd's Flat Wind Farm, outside of Arlington, Oregon>This wind farm is tscheduled for completion in 2012, is expected to be the largest in the world. The post on the company blog says that the energy from  Shepherds Flat will be “sold under long term agreements to Southern California Edison.” Google sits with other serious players in this wind farm. General Electric and Sumitomo Corporation of America are both there windgoogle

California has now mandated a target of 33% of renewable energy by 2020, and Governor Jerry Brown has dropped broad hints of an even higher target. This brings Google's investment in clean energy to $350 million and they say

This project is exciting to us not only because of its size and scale, but also because it uses advanced technology. This will be the first commercial wind farm in the U.S. to deploy, at scale, turbines that use permanent magnet generators—tech-speak for evolutionary turbine technology that will improve efficiency, reliability and grid connection capabilities"

Interesting , don't you think that the smart and the  clever in the business community  understand and can see the benefits of clean energy and are prepared to put their money into it, and the Republicans still have to keep denying that climate change is even real?
