Good News
- The news everyone's talking about: America elects the environmental candidate of choice.
- Not only that, but the green cause has also made some gains in the U.S. Congress.
- And California approves proposition 2, a victory for the more humane treatment of farm animals.
- Fungus is a wonderful thing: one newly discovered species produces diesel; meanwhile, in Northern forests, dry fungus actually slows global warming.
Bad News
- Climate change will cause 'economic deserts', as drought afflicted land will have to be abandoned. Even in rich countries (Las Vegas, I'm looking at you).
- The economic crisis is slowing down the growth of the organic market.
- Times are tough for cute fuzzy rodents: Norway's lemming populations are in decline due to global warming.
- Europe's 2 degree Celsius global warming limit may not be technically achievable.
- And to add insult to injury, leading engineers say the lack of political will is slowing Europe's renewable energy revolution.
And by the way
- Smarter children are more likely to vote green as adults (why, no, that's not a hint at all *cough cough*).
