Transforming a bedroom for fall is not difficult, but it does take some planning. After a
hard day at work, it is comforting to relax in a personal oasis. With the right artwork, lighting, and scaled bedroom furniture, they work together to create a private sanctuary. Candles or low lighting enhances and changes the mood of any bedroom especially with fall colors.
Colors
When deciding on a color scheme for a fall bedroom, choose colors with deeper hues and darker shades. Instead of decorating a room in one color, coordinate prints with solid colors and complementing shades. For more interest, focus on one or two shades and incorporate complementary colors by varying the tones.
As an example of adding interest, use the same print in various sizes throughout the bedroom. A smaller print looks better on a pillow sham, and a larger print is more attractive on a quilt. Lastly, add one or more items without prints to balance the other printed elements in a room. Some suggestions for solid colored items are pieces of furniture like a chair, a small couch, or an ottoman.
Materials
Besides color, material plays an important role when decorating a bedroom for the fall.
Rich heavyweight fabrics such as brocades or 600-count Egyptian cotton gives an air of elegance and sophistication. Because of the denseness of these fabrics, curtains and window treatments dampen outside sounds to create a warm and inviting place to rest. Fabrics such as chenille when coupled with deep jewel tones are the perfect combination for fall bedrooms. The heavier fabrics and deeper colors give bedding and other accessories luxurious appearances.
Coordinating Elements
The focal point in any bedroom is the bed itself, and it is one of the easiest ways to create a mood. A bedding ensemble takes the guesswork out of matching and coordinating bed skirts, pillow shams, sheets, and quilts. Additionally, add matching window treatments with complementing shades. If the ensemble is a print, pick out one color and use it as an accent color to cover a nightstand or dresser and add the same splash of color with a throw rug. In order to complete the look, add seasonal flowers.
