The Dalai Lama Wants to Join a Green Party

Rena Sherwood

Both revered and vilified in his lifetime, the Dalai Lama continues to teach justice not only for humans but for the environment. He has been living in exile from Tibet since the Chinese took it over in 1959. Here, in a talk delivered to the University of Michigan, he is asked about how to find hope and states he is unqualified to answer the question. He then goes on to explain that he does see hope in the growing green movement throughout the world. "So, please, continue", he says, "work in this field. And make known [to] more people, educate more people and through media, through newspaper, through some sermon or talks - I think that's important."

There's a lesson in there for us all.

Long live the Dalai Lama.
