Japan is on the cusp of an election result which will represent a seismic shift in the political balance of power. The incumbent ruling party, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is expected to be replaced after a half-century in power by the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), pending today's expected landslide election results. The DPJ platform represents a stronger climate change policy than the incumbent group, which has consistently aligned itself with policy favorable to big industry, but moving that policy to actual law is not expected to be easily accomplished.
