For the first time, researchers from the EPA have found potentially fatal chemical contaminants in drinking water wells near natural gas drilling sites in Pavillion, Wyoming. This brings into question an extraction technique know as "fracking", which is commonly used by companies like EnCana Corp, Halliburton Co, and others. According to EPA scientist Greg Oberley, "The preponderance of those compounds in the area would be attributable to the oil and gas industry."
