The U.S. Justice Department has filed a complaint on behalf of the state of Illinois and the EPA against energy giant Edison for "illegally emitting massive amounts of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter". Specifically at issue are six of Edison's coal-fired plants which had been modified sans legally required pollution control equipment.

Cash for Clunkers style program for appliances is being formulated.

Watermelon is being seen as a potential source of alternative fuel. 20 to 40 percent of watermelon on farms currently goes to waste.

Sen. Mark Begich is hosting four fellow senators to give them an eyewitness view of the damage inflicted by climate change. Unfortunately, with the company he's invited, he's already preaching to the converted.
