Business leaders are meeting today in Copenhagen for the World Business Summit on Climate Change. They will be joined by academics, politicians and Al Gore to discuss how industry can help fight global warming. May I suggest they stop hampering?
New studies clarify the challenge climate change will pose for Chile in the future. In the next 40 years, projected temperature increases of at least 1C to 1.5C and a drop in rainfall of at least 10 to 15% will affect the country's agriculture sector, particularly wine and fruit exports, as well as the long-term availability of water.
Also suffering from climate change and the global economy is Kenya's flower export industry. A significant drop in demand combined with unpredictable weather is threatening to impact the nation's economy and the three million jobs provided by the sector.
Fortunately, it is not all extinctions, all the time. 2008's list of top ten newly discovered species, includes such curious creatures as a pea-sized seahorse, caffeine-free coffee, a palm that flowers itself to death and hairspray dwelling bacteria.
And a small New York based asphalt company has developed an innovative type of environmentally friendly pothole filling asphalt. Made from plant based materials, 'Green Patch Asphalt' is biodegradable and doesn't emit VOCs, unlike traditional petroleum based filling asphalt.
