The American coffee shop chain Starbucks has been accused of wasting more than 23 million litres of water each day because staff are told to leave taps running non-stop.

...

It means that 23.4 million litres of water - enough to fill an Olympic swimming pool every 83 minutes or sustain the population of drought-hit Namibia - is wasted every day.

In the UK alone, where there are 698 branches open for 13 hours a day, it counts for around 1.63 million litres of water wasted.

Water firms say the policy harms the environment, while hygiene experts dismissed the health and safety-motivated policy as "nonsense" and "bonkers". - The Telegraph

a dubious claim - and obviously one a crazy has taken in context that suits their own misinformation agenda..the only taps, fawcetts, water cocks , whatever term you use, in your Starbucks locale) would be to their Espresso machines and dishwashing machines, the same as any other café or restaurant... they cannot turn them off and even when they are on only demand water as required, not constant running... other hosings and clean flushings are again as required... come on get real!...who in their right mind believes that nonsensical claim? and in its right context... I do not advocate water wastage in any form and we could say that what we send down our baths every day is huge compared to any cafe useage, so humans at home get our house in order before we yell "j'accuse" try a shower , dont bath, use a pressure shower head, wash dishes in a smaller container not a sink and dont use dishwashers if you can avoid.. water is for running under bridges and for fish to swim in not mans wanton wastes, stupidity and vanity... we each need 2 - 3 litres of fresh potable water each day to survive...shouldnt that be a sufficient signal to suggest that we start as individuals before we point hidden agendas at anyone else, corporation or individual..
go ride a bike, leave your car at home, shower with a friend and stop smoking... maybe then the world will manage to get carbon below 350 ppm, Use sustainable means in everything you do... start there, and remember it isnt up to governments and corporations its up to you...Oh and use some commonsense in your aguments and stop the idiotic hidden anti corporation agenda.. it is self defeating...if you want corporatiosn to get on side it means they have to belive you are not a blithering emotional irrational bigot... use arguments of commonsense, engage the story teller in the mind of your opposition so they think about things not automatically react defensively... its up to you ..all of you... stop whimping with the usual suspects.. be original and start with some truth ...
Our kids kids deserve it!

Wake up and smell the coffee Rob. Yes we have to get our own lives in order but that means reducing our demand on the biosphere in any way we can not just at home. The international coffee commodity industry shouldn't be spared scrutiny, it involves virtual slavery in the fields, deforestation, huge energy inputs for processing and transport and when marketed in overpackaged small doses produces huge waste streams.

Transnational corporations come under fire because they are corporations and under corporate law are forbidden from taking anything other than shareholder profit as a priority, those few who take CSR seriously must do so as a secondary factor. In the world we live in it is time to review that situation.
