The Mathematics of Delays

This little clip does a good job at expressing why the global warming 'alarmist' may be one of the most sensible guys out there:

Despite worldwide concern, the release of greenhouse gases is not slowing. In fact, quite the opposite. Yet, on television, in magazines, and on websites all over the world (including green websites), we are now seeing a lot of emotive adverts - mentally assuaging our concern and reassuring us that the biggest polluters in the world are in fact changing course for the better. To the sound of tranquil music we observe footage and pictures of lush green forests and pure rivers, and with soul-soothing narration hear how the wonders of modern technology are forging a clean, sustainable new future for us all.

Unfortunately, these adverts are often made by companies who have invested token amounts only - covering their impropriety with a handkerchief-sized 'fig leaf', yet cleverly managing to convince most of us that by supporting them we're financing a sustainable future for ourselves.

This is not a time to be lulled into inaction - using the analogy from the clip above, the lake out front is already half full of lily pads....
